STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The University of Hartford fell to the Stony Brook Seawolves in five innings by a 10-0 final on Sunday afternoon at University of Field. Stony Brook completed the series sweep in the opening weekend of America East Conference play after taking both games on Saturday.
The Hawks drop to 4-17(0-3 AE) on the season while Stony Brook improves its overall record to 17-6 with a 3-0 mark in the America East.
For the Seawolves, Cukrov threw a four-hitter, did not issue a walk and struck out four en route to the shutout, five inning victory. Giosia led the way for the home team batting 2-for-4 on a pair of home runs which accounted for four of Stony Brook's runs on the afternoon. Her first home run to left center field in the second frame helped the Seawolves double its three run lead to 6-0 while her second long ball of the outing was in the third inning, a solo shot that made it a 9-0 outing.
Stony Brook jumped out to the 3-0 advantage in its first at-bats using a lead-off single, an error and a sacrifice bunt to put two runners in scoring position. A sacrifice fly by Tenuto scored the first run of the game before Combs used a double to right center to push the lead to 2-0. Combs rounded out the Seawolves' scoring in the frame when she crossed home plate on a base hit by Kamachi.
Giosia's third-inning one-run homer was part of a back-to-back home run series as Maloney launched a two-run shot to left center field, plating Karath who earned a base when she was hit by a Hawks' pitch, with two outs recorded in the frame.

Amber Andrews notched Hartford's lone extra-base hit, a two-out double in the top of the third. She was the only Hawk to reach scoring position on the afternoon. Junior

After playing the first 21 games of the 2012 campaign on the road, Hartford finally makes its home debut on March 28 when it welcomes the Marist Red Foxes to West Hartford for a pair of games. First pitch from the University of Hartford softball field is slated to be thrown at 2:30 p.m. The Hawks enjoy a 17-game home schedule this season that includes 10 dates in West Hartford.
