BOXSCORE

WORCESTER, Mass.
– The University of Hartford men's tennis team won each of the top four singles matches to earn its first road win of the Spring, defeating Holy Cross, 4-3, Friday afternoon.

The match, which was originally scheduled for Thursday, had been rescheduled for a day later.

The Hawks earned their four points in singles play as the top four matches all went the way of the Hawks in straight sets. In the top spot, junior Marco Neves edged the Crusaders' top player, 7-5, in the first set before running away with the match with a 6-1 second set decision.

Senior Aneil Bhalla also faced a battle in the first set at No. 2, winning the set, 6-4, over Ryan Sullivan. However, similar to Neves, Bhalla took control with a 6-2 victory in the second set.

The Hawk victories at the Nos. 3 and 4 positions came with wider margins, as both matches featured a 6-0 score in the first set. At No. 3, junior Josh Isaacson ran out to a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Chris Das. Sophomore Michael Kennelly notched a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles.

The Hawks nearly took the doubles point as well as the tandem of Neves and Kennelly notched a victory at No. 2 doubles, 8-3. However, the Hartford duo of Bhalla and Isaacson, playing in the No. 1 post, narrowly fell to Nick Berretttini and Sullivan, 9-8 (6). The No. 3 doubles match was also close as Holy Cross took the victory over the team of Alex Holdstein and Bogdan Nedelcu.

The Hartford men are back on the courts April 14 and 15, hosting Boston U. on Saturday before taking on St. Francis (Pa.) at home on Sunday. For the women, Saturday afternoon brings a road date at UConn, followed by a Sunday home match, also against St. Francis (Pa.).
