LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – After falling by a 10-2 count in Wednesday's opening game at Siena, junior shortstop
Kate Wacyk smacked a grand slam in the top of the seventh frame to help the Hartford Hawks claw back from a four-run, game two deficit. The Siena Saints (16-21), however, scored the walk-off win by a 5-4 final with an RBI double to complete the doubleheader sweep at Siena Field.
Jessika - Jo Sandrini threw a one-hitter in the opening game to earn the win while freshman
Ana Alberti suffered the loss for Hartford (5-34) after allowing six runs in one-third of an inning. After throwing 4.2 innings in relief in game one, senior

In the final game of the afternoon, Hartford and Siena exchanged zeroes for four complete innings as Sheehan clamped down and held the Saints to just one hit, a lead-off single in the bottom of the fourth frame.
After the Hawks came up empty in the top of the fifth, Siena, which held Hartford to just one hit during that five-inning stretch, lit up the scoreboard with four runs, using a pair of hits to break open the deadlock.
With two outs already recorded in the inning, Lindsey McKeever got the Saints' bats going with a base hit. Sandrini earned a free base after she was hit by a Sheehan pitch and Samantha Ray loaded up the bases after drawing a walk, allowing a home run by Jones to plate four runs for Siena.
The Hawks countered in the top half of the seventh, thanks to clutch hitting by the bottom of the line-up which set the scene for Wacyk's two-out grand slam. With one down in the frame, rookies
Margaret Betz and
Peyton Fisher notched back-to-back singles and sophomore
Amber Andrews worked a walk off of Filipazzo to load up the bases. One swing of Wacyk's bat quickly knotted the game at 4-4, however in the bottom of the seventh frame, the Saints led off with a single and Sandrini doubled in the go-ahead run to claim the walk-off victory for the home team.
The Saints got things going with a bang on Wednesday, using four-straight hits to plate three quick runs in the opening game. Sandrini, the lead-off batter, quickly got Siena on the scoreboard with a solo shot to left field and following a pair of singles by Alyssa Sceppaguerci and Shannon Jones, Natasha Powlowsky notched a bases clearing triple to make a 3-0 game with no outs recorded in the frame.
After recording the first out, Jen Duell pushed the lead to 4-0, driving in Powlowsky with a base hit and Stout provided the Saints with the early 6-0 advantage when she recorded the second home run of the inning.
Another run was added to the scoreboard before Hartford had a chance to trim its deficit. Down 7-0 heading into the top half of the third, Andrews led off the frame with a single to centerfield and
Devynne Butler, a rookie, put runners on the corners for the Hawks after reaching base on an infield error. Wacyk and
Jordan Haines, the next two batters, hit into infield ground outs to third base, however they each drove in a run in the process to close the gap to five runs at 7-2.
Siena added one more run to the count in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out home run by Powlowsky, marking the catcher's third RBI of the afternoon, to extend the home teams' advantage to 8-2.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Powlowsky struck again, this time launching her second home run of the game over the left centerfield wall. Following a base hit to left field by Megan Volz, Duell ended the game via eight-run mercy rule with an RBI single to the opposite side of the outfield.
After a two-week absence, the Hawks resume America East action when they host the UMBC Retrievers for a three-game set. Due to inclement weather in the forecast, the series will start on Friday with a doubleheader (1:00 p.m.) and will conclude on Saturday with a single game (1:00 p.m.).
