#5 Hartford Softball Walks Off Johnson & Wales 15-14 to Advance to Friday in CNE Championship Pod

BEVERLY, Mass. - Junior Adelie Beebe (Sacramento, Calif.) came up in the bottom of the 7th inning with two on and two outs with the Hawk season on the line. In a 1-2 count the junior ended the game launching a no-doubt walk-off homer to lift the Hawks past #3 Johnson & Wales University 15-14. With the win Hartford will now continue tomorrow at Endicott College in a win or home game. 

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Wildcats jumped ahead in the top of the second on a two-RBI single by Jadyn Torres. Sophomore Alyssa Edwards (Stoughton, Mass.) would cut the deficit in half launching her first home run of the day. Johnson & Wales exploded for four more runs in the top of the third to lead 6-1. 
  • Edwards once again shined for Hartford hitting a three-run bomb to dead center as the lead was trimmed to 6-4 after three innings. JWU would continue to score runs getting two more in the fourth to now lead 8-4. The Hawks made a statement in the bottom of the fourth scoring six runs on six hits to jump ahead 10-8. Freshman Alina Weaver (Nazareth, Pa.) hit a solo shot to kick off the inning. Senior Anita Farkash (Seaford, N.Y.) doubled to tie the game and freshman Ariana Hernandez (Fair Lawn, N.J.) delivered a two RBI double to push the Hawks in front. 
  • The Wildcats jumped in front getting a grand slam in the top of the fifth to lead 12-10. After a silent fifth, Edwards hit her third homer of the day to cut the deficit to 12-11 with three outs left. JWU would add two more runs in the top of the seventh with Hartford now trailing by three runs headed into the seventh. Weaver would get a RBI single after a double by freshman Priya Bedard (Medway, Mass.) to cut the lead to 14-12 and Beebe delivered the moon shot for the walk-off win. 

In the Circle:

  • Senior Carly Mayhood (Newton, N.J.) got the start going 2.2 innings allowing six runs with four strikeouts. Junior Gracie Hopkins (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) was next going two innings allowing six runs on five hits with two punch outs. Junior Alex Hassett (Granby, Conn.) followed getting five outs allowing two runs with three punchies. Sophomore Ella Zobel (Clarence, N.Y.) picked up the win getting a pair of outs. 
  • Jill Reed got the loss tossing 3.1 innings allowing six runs. 

At the Plate:

  • Edwards became the second Hawk in program history to hit three homers in a game joining Danielle Rocheleau who hit three homers against Binghamton on May 4th of 2018. Alyssa ended 3-for-3 from the plate with five RBIs and four runs scored. Beebe finished 3-for-5 with the walk-off homer, four ribbys and three runs scored. Senior Gia Miccio (Bellmore, N.Y.) added a three hit day while Weaver went 2-for-5 with a homer. 
  • Johnson & Wales hit three homers in the game led by Ashley Bergeron who went 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs.

Up Next:
The Hawks will take on the loser of #2 Roger Williams and #1 Endicott College in an elimination game.
