WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Hartford freshman Peyton Fisher recorded the game-tying RBI and went on to score the game-winning run to lead the Hawks to the America East conference series sweep of the UMBC Retrievers on Saturday afternoon by a 3-2 count. Hartford improves to 3-9 in the league (8-34 overall) while UMBC drops to 1-11 in conference play with an overall mark of 17-25.

Fisher combined to bat .500 against the Retrievers (4-for-8) and finished with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs to lead the Hawks to their first conference sweep since the 2009 season when they won three-straight against the Vermont Catamounts at home. Amber Andrews, a sophomore, combined to bat 5-for-9 (.556) and adds an RBI and two runs scored to that total while junior Jordan Haines collected three hits, scored two runs and knocked-in two in the two-day span.

Siera Sheehan went the distance in game three to earn the win inside of the circle, her third-straight, after recording four strikeouts and allowing just a pair of runs on four hits. For the weekend series, the senior combined for a 2.33 ERA while limiting the Retrievers to a .215 average at the plate. She allowed seven earned runs in 21.0 innings of work and compiled 12 strikeouts over the three-game stretch to improve her overall mark to 7-9 on the season.

UMBC wasted little time to jump out to a 2-0 lead using a lead-off double by Jessica Warner and following up one batter later with a Taylor Hall home run to quickly put the visiting squad ahead. Sheehan was lights out from that point on, scattering just two more runs while keeping the Retrievers off the scoreboard for the remaining six frames.

In addition, just one batter advanced past second base for the remainder of the outing, but the Hawks were quick to silence UMBC's threat on the top half of the sixth, forcing a ground out and a line out with runners on second and third.

In the bottom of the third, Haines slammed an RBI double to right center field to help the Hawks cut the lead in half and pull within one run of the Retrievers. Shannon Simpkins, a senior who started the offense with a one-out infield single, scored from first on the play to provide Haines with her 12th RBI of the season, second-most on the squad.

In the following inning, a triple to left centerfield off the bat of Fisher brought home Erica Phelps, who reached on an infield error, and knotted the game at 1-1. In the next at-bat, the Hawks swiped their first lead, one they would not relinquish, after a wild pitch allowed Hartford's catcher to move 60 feet to provide her team with lead at 3-2.

The Hawks look to improve upon their three-game win streak, the longest since April of last season, when they host the Quinnipiac Bobcats in a doubleheader on Wednesday. First pitch is slated to be thrown at 2:30 from the University of Hartford Softball Field.
