Boston, Mass. –
The Hartford softball team dropped an America East Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Boston University, falling 1-0 in the opening game and 11-1 in the nightcap. Hartford was led on the afternoon by Jordan Haines who finished with two of the Hawks six total hits.

Hartford (9-38 overall, 3-11 America East) scattered six total hits over the two game stretch with five different players in on the action. Haines, whose two hits matched all players as a game high for the afternoon, two hits both went for doubles, the only extra base hits of the day for Hartford. Kate Wacyk led Hartford with two RBI.

In the circle, senior Siera Sheehan pitched all 10 innings allowing 12 total runs, all earned, on nine hits, despite holding the Terriers to a .243 batting average.

The lone run in the opening game came in the second inning after the Terriers opened the stanza with a leadoff walk issued to centerfielder Chelsea O'Connor. She advanced to second on a sacrifice from designated hitter Chelsea Kehr and took third on an infield groundout. O'Connor and Amy Ekart, whose walk put runners on the corner, combined to score the first run on a successful double steal attempt.

The Hawks had a pair of chances at tying the game, the first in the third inning after Peyton Fisher led off the inning by legging out an infield single to short stop. After advancing to second on a sacrifice from Amber Andrews, the rookie catcher would end up stranded at third following a pair of groundouts. In the seventh inning the Hawks managed to load the bases on two occasions, but were unsuccessful in scoring a run. The Terriers managed the second out of the inning by taking care of the force out at home before getting Fisher to ground out to first.

In the nightcap, the Hawks struck first with their only run of the day coming in the first inning. Andrews began the offense as she managed to reach base on an error on the catcher despite striking out. That same error allowed Andrews to take second before advancing to third on a single to short from Shannon Simpkins before being driven home on a second-straight single, this one to right field off the bat of Wacyk.

The Terriers then struck gold in the second inning pushing eight runs across the plate, including four that came on one swing of the bat, a grand slam from shortstop Brittany Clendenny. Emily Roesch and Melanie Delgado also finished the second inning with one RBI apiece. Boston University added three more runs in the fourth inning before earning the five inning victory.

The Hawks and Terriers will close out the series with a single game on Sunday afternoon. First pitch in the series finale is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at BU Softball Field.
