Omar Tall, a sophomore, got the scoring going for Hartford. After his shot was stopped in front, Simms was in place to drill the ball into the lower right corner of the net to put his team ahead, 1-0.
During that opening stanza, freshman goalkeeper Viltsu Tuumi turned away two of Villanova's shots while Hartford's defense was also solid, coming up with three blocked shot attempts to preserve the clean slate up to the intermission.

In the 73rd minute, Villanova tied it up on a marker by Will Cason. Less than two minutes later, the Hawks were forced to play with one less player as senior midfielder Kevin Lewis was issued a red card.
It didn't' take long for Villanova to exploit the ejection as it took its first lead of the evening just 16 seconds later in the 75th minute. On the ensuing free kick, Kyle Soroka, the Wildcats' leading scorer, sent a ball to Oscar Umar who knocked-in what proved to be the game-winning goal.
The Hawks saw back-to-back chances to net the equalizer not long after Villanova netted the go-ahead goal, but both of junior David Bernhardsson's shots were rejected by Fogarty.
Fogarty finished with seven saves, a game-high, while Tuumi made six stops between the posts for the Hawks.
