Box Score LOWELL, Mass. – The University of Hartford women's soccer team cruised to its third America East victory, scoring a 4-0 shutout of the UMass Lowell River Hawks on Sunday afternoon. Freshman keeper Jessica Jurg completed her sixth shutout, colleting four saves. The Hawks improve to 8-4-3 overall and 3-2-0 in America East play.
Hartford controlled the contest from the beginning, scoring the game-winning goal early in the 17th minute. Junior striker Chanel Johnson scored her fourth-straight goal for the Hawks, working with sophomore Elise Galipo for the tally. Johnson's team leading sixth goal of the game came courtesy of a rebound as she was able to score on an open net with Lowell keeper Jane Jatzikonstantis out of position.
The Hawks took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at the break while also holding a 13-2 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes. Jurg wasn't tested in the opening period with all of her four saves coming in the second half.
Hartford came out of the break and extended their lead with three insurance goals, all of which began as a corner kick opportunity with Hartford scoring on all of their corners in the second half. Stephanie Santos collected three assists for the Hawks, one on each of the second half scores.
The first of those goals came at 57:01 as Amanda Hamilton used the service into the box from Santos to score on a header, her third goal of the season. The third and fourth goals of the game came in the 61st and 65th minutes with Erica Primovic scoring both.
Primovic's first goal of the game, and her first of the season, came on a one touch opportunity thanks to a well-placed ball off the corner from Santos, six yards off the goal line. Primovic and Santos connected again off the final corner kick of the half, this time with Primovic scoring from the edge of the 18yard box into the near corner.
Hartford will play one more road game before returning to Alumni Stadium when they travel to Binghamton University. The Hawks and Bearcats are scheduled for a mid-week meeting on October 17, with kick off slated for 7 p.m.Â
