Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 in Double OT to New Hampshire

Box Score
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Hartford women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 double overtime decision to the visiting New Hampshire Wildcats on Sunday afternoon at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium. Hartford falls to 6-4-3 overall and 1-2-0 in America East action.

Both teams had the pressure on in the early minutes of the contest as Hartford registered the first shot of the game 155 seconds into the action. Sophomore Sidney Spremullo provided that first opportunity working off of the Hawks first, of five, corner kick attempt, with her shot going wide left. UNH had their first opportunity come just over a minute later as the Hawks rookie keeper Jessica Jurg saved the header attempt from Kirsten O'Neil.

That shot for UNH was the first of five-straight for the Wildcats before Chanel Johnson sent her first of six shots in the contest wide of the goal. Jurg would finish the opening half with a pair of saves for Hartford, facing eight total shots. The Hawks took four shots in the first 45 minutes with Jurg's counterpart Mimi Borkan finishing without a save.

Hartford had the best opportunity for either squad in the second half come as part of a series of four-straight shots for the Hawks, all within a 116 second span. Johnson provided the first two shots of the sequence with her first saved by Brokan and the second blocked. Sophomore Elise Galipo collected that blocked attempt and had her shot ricochet off the crossbar and back into play where the final shot was sent high of the net.

Hartford controlled the possession for much of the two overtime periods, taking five shots total against just three for New Hampshire. The Hawks best attempt came from Galipo just 32 seconds into the second overtime with what looked to be a clean look at the net broken up by a defender at the last second and forcing a Hartford corner kick.

UNH would score their game-winning tally with 3:45 remaining in the second extra period. Anna Deweirdt, who came off the bench for the Wildcats, bent her attempt over the outstretched arms of Jurg into the upper right corner of the net.

Hartford closes out a three-game home stand on Thursday evening when they welcome the Stony Brook Seawolves to Alumni Stadium. The Hawks and Seawolves will kick off the contest at 6 p.m.
