Tennis Teams Drop Spring Openers

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. –
The University of Hartford tennis teams hosted the Colgate Red Raiders at the East Hartford Tennis Club to open the spring schedule. The Hawk men and women each fell to the Red Raiders by identical counts, 7-0.

Josh Isaacson paced the Hartford men from the No. 4 singles position. The senior from Marietta, Ga., dropped the opening set, 7-5, to Colgate's Archer McFall. However, Isaacson fought back to take the second set, 6-3, and force a superbreak. McFall outlasted Isaacson in the tie-breaker, 10-7.

From the No. 6 singles spot, junior Alex Holdstein also made a bid to force a tiebreak. After losing 6-0 in the first set, Holdstein rallied to win five games in the second before falling, 7-5.

Hannah Goldman led the charge for the Hawk women playing from the No. 3 singles slot. Goldman jumped out the an early lead, winning the first set, 6-4, against Jennifer Ho. Goldman conceded a closely contested second set, 7-6, before falling in the deciding third set, 6-1.

Senior Katina Zampas won a total of seven games in her match at No. 2 singles before dropping a 6-4, 6-3 decision.
The Hawks take an extended break from competition after last weekend's season opener. Both teams head to Manchester, N.H., to face Southern New Hampshire next with the women playing Friday, February 15, at 7 p.m. and the men playing Saturday, February 16, also at 7 p.m.
