Softball Falls on the Road at Boston College

Box Score

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – In mid-week action, the University of Hartford softball team fell to Boston College, 10-2, in six innings on the road on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks will look to rebound this weekend when they travel to Baltimore, Md., to take on the UMBC Retrievers in a three-game America East Conference series.

Eagles' pitcher Stephanie Lord held the Hawks to just four hits on the afternoon, helping her team improve to 12-29 on the season. Seniors Kate Wacyk and Melani Maxwell each notched one hit while juniors Chelsey Mooney and Amber Andrews rounded out the offense for the afternoon.

The Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings of action, plating two runs in the first and one in the second before a three-run, home run from Tory Speer opened up the game and put the home team out in front by six runs midway through the bottom part of the third inning. Junior Kaitlyn Meade gave up the first six runs of the game while sophomore Ana Alberti, making her third appearance in relief in as many games, conceded four runs down the stretch including two more in the third and a pair in the home half of the sixth.

Speer also accounted for Boston College's final two runs, belting out a game-ending two-run homer with one out.

The Hawks struck the scoreboard twice on the afternoon, first plating one run in the top half of the fourth before adding one more tally in the following inning.

Wacyk scored her team's first run, knocking a one-out single to centerfield before taking second and third on a Jackie Kelly fielder's choice coupled with a Boston College error. Mooney would then collect the RBI in the next at-bat, grounding out to second base and bringing Wacyk across home plate to make it an 8-1 game.

Following a quiet bottom of the fourth that saw Alberti hold Boston College to just one base hit, Hartford struck again in the fifth stanza as Maxwell led off the bats with a solo shot over the centerfield wall, her second long ball of the season.

Lord improves to 1-10 with the win while Meade dips her record to 4-11.
