Three Hawks Record First Goals in 2013 as Hawks top FDU 3-0 on Sunday

Box Score TEANECK, N.J. – The University of Hartford women's soccer team picked up its largest victory of the season, and the first shutout for rookie keeper Jessica Jurg, with a 3-0 road victory over the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights on Sunday afternoon. Hartford improves to 2-1-2 on the season.

The game-winning goal came in the 26th minute from transfer grad student Amanda Hamilton who connected with sophomore Sidney Spremullo who began the play with a free kick on the left side. Hamilton sought out Spremullo's service into the box and the 5-9 defender headed her shot to the left side of the goal for her first score in a Hartford uniform.

Hartford took a 4-3 shot advantage into the locker room at the half with Jurg collecting her first two saves at Hartford while the Knights keeper, Sage DoVale, also made a pair of saves. The Hawks also had a pair of corner kick opportunities in the first half, while Hartford's defense kept FDU without a corner kick chance in the first 45 minutes.

The Hawks second goal of the game began as senior Natasha Douglas won the ball from the Knights defense and played in back to junior Chanel Johnson. After accelerating through a pair of FDU defenders Johnson rounded the last defender and lifted the ball over the Knights keeper. Johnson's goal was her first of the season, while Douglas served up her first assist, to compliment a pair of goals.

The Hawks added an insurance goal in the first seconds of the 87th minutes as rookie Nicola Winogradoff connected on her only shot in her first appearance in 2013. The midfielder connected with sophomore transfer Stephanie Santos who began the play with a corner kick that Winogradoff turned into the goal.

Hartford outmatched the Knights offensively in the second half with a 10-4 advantage in shots, finishing the contest with a 14-7 advantage. The Hawks also finished with four corner kicks compared to two for the home time while Jurg finished her first appearance with five saves.

The Hawks will return to West Hartford as they prepare for a pair of games at the Fairfield Women's Soccer Invitational. Hartford will first take on Holy Cross on Friday at 4 p.m. before returning to the Stags home field to face American University on Sunday at 11 a.m.
