Hawks Fall on the Road at Fairfield

BOX SCORE

STAMFORD, Conn.—The University of Hartford men's tennis team took back to the courts Friday night when it traveled to Stamford to take on Nutmeg State foe Fairfield. Despite a solid effort from the three freshmen in the lineup, the Hawks dropped a 4-0 result to the Stags.

"We had the game plan, we knew where we needed to win and we were executing at the bottom of the lineup," head coach Torr Terranova following the match. "The doubles point is what this match came down to."

Fairfield took the doubles point with wins in the Nos. 1 and 3 matches, including a 6-3 win over Nicholas Sharwarko and Morgan White in the top spot. Alex Holdstein and Juan Molina led their match at No. 2, 5-3, but did not finish the match once the point was decided.

In singles play, the Stags took each of the top-three matches to earn the necessary four points for the win. However, the Hawks battled at the bottom of the lineup with their three freshmen.

Molina won his first set at No. 4, 6-4, over Fairfield's Cameron Amyot, and was on serve when the match was called. At No. 5, White dropped his first set, but clinched the second set, 6-4, and would have sent the match to a tiebreak. Fellow freshman Harrison Max battled in the first set before losing in a tiebreak, 7-6. Each of the three matches went unfinished.

The Hartford men now do not have another match until March 30, when they head back to Fairfield County to take on Sacred Heart. The Hawks then host eight-straight matches in an 11-day span from April 3 through April 13.
