Tennis Teams Set to Open America East Championship Play

AMERICA EAST TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
 
COLUMBIA, Md. –The University of Hartford men's and women's tennis teams head to Columbia, Md., for the America East Conference Championships this weekend at the Wilde Lake Community Association. Both teams open play on Friday as the women take on NJIT in the morning and the men play Binghamton in the afternoon. UMBC will serve as the tournament host for the second straight year.
 
The Hartford women enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed. The Hawks will play No. 3 NJIT, an associate member of the America East for women's tennis, in a quarterfinal matchup. The Hawks and Highlanders will serve it up starting at 9 a.m. with doubles play. The winner of the match will play No. 2 Binghamton in a semifinal match Saturday at 1 p.m. at Wilde Lake. The championship final is slated for Sunday at 2 p.m. on the UMBC campus.
 
In the afternoon, the No. 4 seed Hartford men take on top-seeded Binghamton in a conference semifinal. The Hawks and Bearcats are scheduled for a 5 p.m. start time Friday afternoon. The winner of that contest will take on the winner of No. 2 UMBC and No. 3 Stony Brook for the America East title on Sunday at 10 a.m. in Columbia, Md.
