Box Score LOWELL, Mass. – The University of Hartford softball team suffered a 7-0 loss on Saturday at UMass Lowell in both teams' final game of the 2014 season. The Hawks conclude the year at 8-30 with a 2-16 record in the America East. Finishing at 13-36 after their inaugural Division I season, the River Hawks conclude their first year in America East play with a 3-14 record.
The storyline of the afternoon was Marielle Handley, who conceded just two Hawks' hits on the afternoon to finish the season with an 8-17 record. She recorded one strikeout in the clean slate. For Hartford, freshman
Lexi Wilkerson (4-9) took the loss, recording three strikeouts while giving up seven runs on 10 hits.

Amber Andrews and junior
Margaret Betz were the only two players to record hits for Hartford, which fell behind early in the game on an RBI ground out by UMass Lowell's Emily O'Brien. Three innings later, the River Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 advantage before increasing their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run Ali Ferraro home run. The River Hawks went on to put the game out of reach in the sixth inning when they added two more runs on RBI singles off the bats of Brianna Martin and Abby Jamieson.
Hartford loses five seniors – Andrews,
Zuzana Kudernatschova,
Kaitlyn Meade,
Chelsey Mooney and
Genevieve Morneau-Vaillancourt – to graduation. The class helped lead the Hawks to their first America East Championship appearance since 2007.
