Tennis Opens Final Seasons Saturday

The University of Hartford men's and women's tennis teams will begin their final seasons on Saturday, Feb. 13, when they take on Colgate in Guilford, Conn., at 3 p.m.

"We're looking for a strong start to the season," head coach Torr Terranova said. "It's all about having the kids really believe in what we're trying to do. The last couple weeks, we've pressed effort and attitude, because on the court or in life, you need those things to be successful."

On the women's side, the Hawks will be looking for sophomore Meredith Heitland to step up and have a strong showing this weekend after a solid fall at No. 3 singles. Elsewhere, the women will look to several players who did not see much action in the fall to benefit from their training in the offseason.

For the men, the doubles side looks to have solid success, led by Will Drumwright and Bryan Einstoss, who continue to play together after a standout fall on the court. Likewise, the combination of Juan Molina and Morgan White at No. 3 brings strong chemistry, and the duo of Luis Montes and Dan Rombola should also be a solid combination at No. 2.

In singles play, Rombola returns to the No. 1 singles slot after an outstanding performance in the fall, while Drumwright and Einstoss provide experience at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. For Montes, White and Molina, they will be looked at to step up their play and provide results from the back half of the lineup.

"This will be the starting point for how our season is going to go," Terranova said. "How we show up Saturday will be a huge predictor for the rest of the season."
