Daniel Rombola delivered a three-set victory at the No. 1 singles position, but Boston College emerged with a 6-1 victory over the University of Hartford men's tennis team on Tuesday in Chestnut Hill.
Rombola took a dramatic win over Jeffrey Melvin, taking the first set 6-4 before Melvin bounced back to take the second by a 6-3 score. Undaunted, Rombola rebounded and pulled away for a 6-2 win in the third and final set to produce the Hawks' lone point in the match.
BC took the doubles point with 6-1 wins at No. 1 and No. 3, while the duo of Rombola/
Luis Montes delivered a strong fight at No. 2. But BC's veteran duo of Aidan McNulty/Alexandre Thirouin was able to edge the Hawks pair by a score of 7-5.
In singles play, the Eagles gathered straight-set wins in the No. 2 through No. 6 slots, though Montes proved another tough out, as BC's Peter Campana battled his way to a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5.
The Hawks return to the court on Friday, Feb. 19, as they will square off against UMBC at 7 p.m. in Guilford, Conn.
