THE LEAD:

The University of Hartford Men's Soccer team fell, 1-0, against Saint Joseph's on Tuesday night at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium. After a scoreless first half, Saint Joe's scored the game's only goal in the 63rd minute on a shot by Mori Diane. It was the only shot on net for Saint Joe's and stood as the game winner.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Diane netted Saint Joseph's first goal in the 63rd minute off a defensive miscue by Hartford. Junior Matt Crawford forced a turnover in Hartford's defensive zone and launched a counterattack, slipping a pass behind Hartford's defense, where Diane was waiting. Diane dribbled to the top of the box and fired low past freshman goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton.
  • Hartford controlled possession throughout most of the match and had a few chances, but the Hawks couldn't connect on the offensive end. No late-game rally materialized and Hartford lost the final game of its three-game home stand.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Hartford outshot Saint Joe's, 8-6, and each side finished with five corner kicks.
  • Hartford was whistled for 11 fouls to Saint Joe's 10.
  • Junior Andre Morrison (3 shots), freshman Alexis Triadis (3) and senior Jeff Tryon (2) accounted for all eight of Hartford's shots in the game.

NEWS & NOTES:

  • Diane's goal was his third of the season.
  • Slayton made his third career start in place of David MacKinnon and owns a 1-1-1 record.
  • The loss was Hartford's first at home since Oct. 10, 2015, when Vermont handed the Hawks a 2-1 defeat.

UP NEXT:
The Hawks will look for their first road win of the year when they travel to take on Iona (1-3-1) on Saturday. Hartford owns a 6-1 (.857) all-time record against the Gaels, including a 1-0 victory in Hartford in 2015. Saturday's kickoff is set for 3 p.m. and will be the Hawks' only day game this season.
