Men's Soccer Looks To Build Off Iona Win

THE BASICS:

GAME: University of Hartford Men's Soccer (2-3-1) at Dartmouth (1-1-3)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, Sept. 21  / 7 p.m.
LOCATION: Burnham Field (Hanover, N.H.)

ROAD WIN
The University of Hartford Men's Soccer team (2-3-1) will visit Dartmouth (1-1-3) on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. The Hawks got back on track with a 2-0 victory at Iona this past Saturday. Freshman midfielder Alexis Triadis broke through for his first goal of the season and assisted on Hartford's second goal against the Gaels, finding senior Jeff Tryon on a corner kick to secure the win. Freshman goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton racked up a career-best nine saves in the shutout, which also marked Hartford's first road win of the season.

SERIES HISTORY
The Hawks have only met the Big Green on the pitch twice, claiming a 4-1 victory in Hartford in 1992 and dropping a 5-0 decision at Dartmouth in 1993.

BREAKING THROUGH
Entering Saturday's game at Iona, Triadis led the team in shots but hadn't found the back of the net. The freshman from Frankfurt, Germany, fired another five shots against the Gaels and broke through for his first goal of the year. He added his first assist later in the game and leads the team with 17 shots this year.

KNOW YOUR REGULARS
Tryon, Udi Cohen, Andre Morrison, Bastian Stech and Gael Kisombe have started all six of Hartford's matches this fall. Triadis has five starts under his belt, along with fellow freshman Mads Friis, Fredrick Ekman and Michael Balzan. Slayton and freshman Kelechi Akujobi have each made four starts.

SLAYING IT
Slayton took over the starting role after senior David MacKinnon went down with an injury, and he has quickly grown accustomed to life among the Starting XI. He has posted a pair of shutout victories (St. Francis Brooklyn and Iona), with a goals against average of 0.68. His nine saves against the Gaels were a personal best and the most for a Hawks keeper since MacKinnon logged nine, against American, in 2014.

RECORD NO INDICATOR
Dartmouth (1-1-3) hasn't stacked up the wins early, but the Big Green — ranked No. 24 during the preseason by TopDrawerSoccer.com — have been a force this season. The team played to a 1-1 draw at No. 17 Kentucky and beat No. 24 Seattle University, 2-1, on Sept. 11. The Big Green are coming off a 1-1 stalemate against UMass Lowell (6-0-1).

POITRAS POWER
In the midst of his sixth season in Hartford, head coach Tom Poitras owns 46 career wins and a .540 winning percentage (46-38-17), placing him No. 2 all-time in total wins and in winning percentage (among coaches with more than two years' experience). The Hawks have played for three America East Championships under Poitras and averaged 8.8 wins per season during his tenure.
