THE LEAD:
Gael Kisombe scored a brilliant second-half goal, but Holy Cross held off a late rally by the University of Hartford men's soccer team to take 2-1 decision on Friday night. The Crusaders scored two goals early in the contest and were able to fend off a flurry of Hawks efforts in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders struck early off a chip shot from Arno Rupp over Jimmy Slayton in the third minute.
- Holy Cross tacked on another early first half goal, when Owen Azrak scored off a rebound of his own shot in the 14th.
- The Hawks answered early in the second half off the foot of Kisombe. Off a corner from Alexis Triadis, Kisombe sent a missile just inside the right post to cut the Crusaders lead to one in the 47th minute.
- The goal by Kisombe was the first of the sophomore's career. He had two assists in his freshman campaign.
- Hartford had several grade-A chances late, including two efforts inside the box that were deflected off target by the Holy Cross defense.

The Hawks will play their first road contest on Tuesday, Aug. 29, when they travel to Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph's for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
