THE LEAD:
The University of Hartford men's soccer team took a 1-0 decision against Saint Francis Brooklyn on Wednesday night.
Erik Ribeiro netted his first career goal and
Jimmy Slayton turned in his second clean sheet of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
•   The Hawks held off an early attack in the eighth-minute from the Terriers, as Slayton denied a point blank shot from St. Francis' Ali Tounkara.
•   Hartford's defense would stand strong throughout the first half, fending off eight shots, including three on goal.
•   The Hawks broke through in the 63rd minute when
Alexis Triadis sent a cross to Ribeiro, who sent a bullet to the back of the net from seven yards out recording his first career goal and putting the Hawks up, 1-0.
•   The Terriers wouldn't go without a fight. After header that hit off the post, Tounkara sent a missile to the far corner of the goal in the 87th minute which was denied by a diving Slayton to keep Saint Francis off the board.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS & NOTES:
•    Ribeiro became the fourth Hawk this season to score their first career goal, joining
Gael Kisombe,
Fredrik Ekman, and
Rasmus Karlsson.
•   Slayton recorded his second shutout of the season, ninth of his career, while tallying five saves on the night. Â
