Box Score PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Hartford men's soccer team tied with Rutgers in double overtime on Saturday, with a final score of 2-2. The Hawks move to 0-3-2 with the draw, while the Scarlet Knights move to 1-3-1 for the season.
HARTFORD 2, RUTGERS 2
- Rookie Sergi Martinez scored the first goal of the game to give Hartford a 1-0 advantage in the 25th minute. He had assists from freshman Kamer Nuhiu and redshirt-freshman Jordan Koduah
- Rutgers found the back of the net on a penalty kick goal to tie the game in the 27th minute.
- Thirty seconds into the second half, the Scarlet Knights scored on an own goal to get their first lead of the game.
- In the 68th minute Xahne Reid scored his second goal of the season for the equalizer with an assist from Martinez.
- Junior Jimmy Slayton had three saves between the posts, including one late in the second half to keep the Scarlet Knights from taking the lead.
- Neither team was able to find the back of the net in double overtime, leaving the game at a 2-2 draw.
- The Hawks trailed the Scarlet Knights in shots 10-13, but still held a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal.
- Martinez and Reid both led the offense in shots on goal with two apiece.
