Stone Tabbed America East Midfielder of the Year

BOSTON — The accolades continue to roll in for Hartford women's soccer senior Sierra Stone, as she was named the 2019 America East Midfielder of the Year on Monday afternoon. It marks the third major award for Stone during her four-year career with the Hawks.

A native of Hebron, Conn., Stone is the first two-time America East Midfielder of the Year honoree in program history, having previously taken home the honor in 2017. She also made history earlier in her career, becoming the first America East player since 2005 to win a positional Player of the Year honor one season after receiving Rookie of the Year distinction (2016).

She was a unanimous selection for Midfielder of the Year this season.

"What Sierra has done on the field during her senior season, especially during conference play, speaks volumes to what she means to this team and our program," said head coach John Natale. "She is an outstanding technical player who creates many opportunities and leads by example. She will be truly missed next year."

In addition, Stone's three major awards from the America East are tied with Jessica Reifer for the most in program history. A forward, Reifer was named the Rookie of the Year in 1992, before earning two Player of the Year nods in 1994 and 1995.

Stone was named to the America East All-Conference First Team last week. She leads Hartford's offense and is No. 3 in the America East with a career-high 18 points behind a conference-best 10 assists.

Against America East opponents, Stone has been the offensive spark plug for a Hartford team that finished third in the regular-season standings. She has had a hand in 10 of Hartford's last 11 scores, delivering four goals and six assists during that stretch. With three game-winning goals during conference play Stone stayed hot in the playoff quarterfinals this past Sunday, setting up the Hawks' golden goal in the 105th minute to propel the team to the America East semifinals with a 1-0 win against UMass Lowell.

With her latest honor, Stone has collected eight All-Conference awards from the America East during her career. Also receiving First Team All-Conference distinction as a sophomore in 2017, she has twice been named to the Second Team (2016, 2018) and was an All-Rookie Team selection in 2016.

Stone and the Hawks look to punch their ticket to the title match of the America East Championship on Thursday, when they head to second-seeded UAlbany for a 7 p.m. kickoff from Tom and Mary Casey Stadium. It marks Hartford's second straight semifinal appearance.
