Women's Soccer Combines for Seven Regional Awards

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Four members of the Hartford women's soccer team combined for seven awards from the United Soccer Coaches and the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA), the organizations announced this week.

Senior Sierra Stone, classmate Kaila Lozada, redshirt-junior Anna Cronin and junior Maia Perez kicked off the week by earning US Coaches Scholar All-East Region honors. Stone, Cronin and Perez went on to cap off the week by earning All-New England distinction from the NEWISA.

Stone, a midfielder, caps off a stellar career at Hartford by earning spots on the US Scholar All-East Region Second Team and the NEWISA All-New England First Team. Last season, she was a Scholar All-East Region Third Team and All-New England Second Team selection, while in 2017 she was placed on the All-New England First Team. A native of Hebron, Conn., Stone is coming off a senior campaign that saw her tally a career-high 20 points, which included five goals, three game-winning tallies and an America East-best 10 assists.

Totaling eight America East All-Conference awards during her career, Stone became the first Hawk in program history to be named the America East Midfielder of the Year twice in her career (2017, 2019). Additionally, she is the second player to win three major awards from the conference, as she was tabbed the Rookie of the Year in 2016. Stone is also a two-time US Coaches All-Region selection, most recently earning Second Team distinction this past season.

Inside the classroom, Stone has been even more impressive. A three-time America East All-Academic Team member, she is the reigning America East Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete. CoSIDA has also recognized Stone, who holds a 3.97 GPA as an accounting major, during her career for her academic success.

Cronin concludes a solid redshirt-junior season by receiving US Scholar All-East Region Second Team and NEWISA All-New England Second Team laurels. A native of Glastonbury, Conn., the defender was also named to the US Coaches All-Atlantic Region Second Team and the America East All-Conference First Team this past season. On the field, Cronin, who tallied a pair of goals in 2019, anchored a Hartford back line that posted five shutouts and finished No. 2 in the league with a 0.95 goals-against average. In the classroom, the health science major holds a 3.56 GPA.

Perez adds US Coaches Scholar All-East Region Third Team and NEWISA All-New England Third Team honors to her resume after a junior campaign that saw her earn a spot on the America East All-Conference Second Team. A goalkeeper from Kentwood, Mich., she led the conference with a .827 save percentage and was third in both goals-against average (.90) and saves per game (4.55). In the classroom, Perez is a psychology major with a 3.56 GPA.

Lozada, a forward who earned America East Second Team All-Conference and All-Academic Team laurels at the end of the 2019 season, takes home US Scholar All-East Region hardware for the second time in her career. Receiving Second Team distinction as a junior in 2018, the Newington, Conn., native caps off her career by earning a spot on the Third Team. This past season, Lozada scored three goals – including two game winners — and added three assists for nine points.

A four-time America East All-Conference honoree during her career, Lozada joins Stone in earning All-Academic Team laurels in each of the three seasons that she was eligible for the award. A health science major, she owns a 3.85 GPA in the classroom.
