Seven Programs Receive APR Public Recognition

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Hartford Department of Athletics had seven teams earn Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Awards this year, the NCAA announced on Wednesday. These annual awards recognize collegiate programs that score among the top 10 percent of all programs in each sport based on the most recent multi-year APR numbers.

Hartford leads the America East Conference with seven teams recognized, finishing ahead of Stony Brook (6), New Hampshire (3), Maine (2), Binghamton (1) and Vermont (1).

Four of Hartford's seven teams that were recognized extended streaks for picking up the APR Awards. Men's track and field is among 73 teams in Division I that have earned APR Awards in all 14 years of the program. Men's cross country also continues a lengthy streak, earning the award for its ninth-straight year. The report also marked the fifth-consecutive year that baseball earned the recognition, the third year for softball and the second-straight year for volleyball.

The NCAA honors selected NCAA Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate every spring. This announcement highlights teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.

APR provides a real-time snapshot of a program's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. The most recent multi-year APRs are based on averages scores from the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years.

Single-year and multi-year APRs for all Division I teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced on May 8.
