BOSTON — Coming off a 3-0 weekend at the Cornell Invitational, the Hartford volleyball team nearly swept the America East weekly awards, claiming three of the four honors on Tuesday.
For the second time in as many weeks — and the fifth time in her career — senior middle blocker
Jenna Bridges took home Player of the Week honors. Junior setter
Megan Anderson was awarded Setter of the Week for the fourth time in her career, while freshman
Maddie Lindsay was named the league's Rookie of the Week.
After taking down Niagara and Youngstown State in three sets, the Hawks won the Cornell Invitational in dramatic fashion, knocking off previously undefeated and host-team Cornell in five sets in the final match. In addition, the trio anchored a Hartford offense that hit .249 on the weekend, while holding its opponents to a .149 hitting percentage.
The reigning America East Player of the Year, Bridges has continued to put up impressive numbers in the early part of the season. A native of Exeter, R.I., she averaged 4.36 kills and 1.18 blocks per set last weekend en route to being named the Most Valuable Player of the Cornell Invitational. Bridges' weekend was highlighted by an 18-kill performance against Niagara on Friday that saw her commit zero errors for a .818 hitting percentage.
Bridges currently leads the America East in hitting percentage (.408) and kills per set (4.16), while her 1.42 blocks per set rank No. 2 in the league.
A native of Orono, Minn., Anderson piloted the Hawks' offense by averaging 9.55 assists per set. Adding 29 digs, five kills and six blocks, she also totaled four service aces, two of which were delivered in the five-set victory against Cornell on Saturday. Capping off the weekend with a 42-assist effort against the Big Red, Anderson, who leads the America East with 9.43 assists per set, was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Becoming Hartford's first Rookie of the Week award winner since
Abby Nash in 2017, Lindsay has continued to build on a strong start to her collegiate career. She joined Anderson on the All-Tournament Team this past weekend after averaging 3.18 kills and 2.82 digs per set. A native of Lehi, Utah, Lindsay is currently No. 2, behind Bridges, with 3.86 kills per set.
The Hawks look to extend their four-match winning streak when they head to the Dartmouth Invitational this weekend. Hartford will first take on Fordham on Friday, before it battles Dartmouth and Hofstra on Saturday.
