BOSTON — Jimmy Slayton from the Hartford men's soccer team was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week, the organization announced on Monday.
Slayton was dominate in goal over the weekend for the Hawks as he recorded two shutouts in the 1-0 victories over Niagara on Friday and St. Bonaventure on Sunday. The senior recorded three saves against the Purple Eagles while he tied his season-high of four saves against the Bonnies.
The award is Slayton's fourth career honor after being named co-Defensive Player of the Week once last season, and America East Rookie of the Week twice his freshman season. He has played every minute in goal this season and currently ranks seventh in school history in career wins (18), sixth in career saves (218) and sixth in career goals against average (1.23)
The Wethersfield, Conn., native is the second player to receive a weekly award in 2019, after freshman midfielder
Addrian Knights-Browne was named the America East Rookie of the Week on Sep. 9 after scoring the game-winner against Brown.
Slayton and the Hawks return home to Al-Marzook Field when they host in-state rivals Fairfield for the first home game of 2019 on Saturday, Sept. 21. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
