BOSTON — The Hartford men's soccer team picked up another weekly award on Monday, as freshman Patrick Gryczewski was tabbed the league's Rookie of the Week. The honor is the first for the midfielder, and the third for a Hawk this season.
 
A native of Plainville, Conn., Gryczewski converted on each of his two shot attempts to lead Hartford to a 2-2 draw against Yale this past Tuesday. The rookie put the Hawks ahead twice in the contest, giving Hartford a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute with his first career goal, and making it making it a 2-1 advantage with his second marker in the 77th minute. 
 
The tie extended Hartford's unbeaten streak to three matches.
 
Gryczewski's two-goal effort was the first for a Hawk since current junior Nadav Datner netted a pair against Binghamton on March 14, 2021. In addition, the midfielder became the first Hartford freshman to net multiple goals in the same game since Jeff Tryon recorded a hat trick against UMass Lowell on Nov. 6, 2013.
 
Among the team's leaders, Gryczewski ranks third in both goals (2) and points (5). He previously assisted on Hartford's game-winning goal against Dartmouth, on Sept. 28.
 
Last week, sophomore Rotem Fadida and freshman Olivier Sylvain became the first Hartford players to receive weekly awards from the America East, earning Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively. Gryczewski and Sylvain become the first Hawk freshman tandem to receive Rookie of the Week distinction in the same season since 2014, when Andre Morrison (Sept. 1) and Scott McKirgan (Oct. 13) were each recognized by the league.
 
Gryczewski and the Hawks have a busy week on the docket that features a pair of America East matches. Hartford kicks off the action with a road tilt at Vermont on Wednesday (7 p.m.), before it returns home to host Binghamton on Saturday (4 p.m.).
