Women's Golf Tabbed Fourth in Preseason Poll

EDISON, N.J. - The Hartford women's golf team was picked fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference via social media on Monday, Feb. 22.

Defending 2019 champion Albany was picked to finish first, receiving 75 points in the poll and five first-place votes. The Great Danes, three-time defending MAAC champions, were followed by Quinnipiac, who received 73 points and two first-place votes.

Following Quinnipiac with one first-place vote is the University of Dayton (53) in third, the University of Hartford (49) placed fourth with a first-place vote as well. Siena (44) was picked fifth, selected sixth was Fairfield (39), followed by Monmouth (28), Niagara (23), and La Salle (11).

The Hawks return seven members from last season's team, including senior Maria Loza. The 2019 MAAC Tournament individual champion enters the season boasting the best career stroke average in program history with a 75.21. Loza was in the midst of a dominant Spring season before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the season on March 12. Loza ended the shortened season with a team-best 75.42 stroke average, a career-high that topped her previous program-best mark of 75.53, set in 2018-19. She also landed three top 15 finishes, two of which were second-place performances.
