Maria Loza Repeats as MAAC Individual Champion

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Senior Maria Loza became the first player in program history to repeat as an individual conference champion, leading the Hartford women's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the MAAC Championship. Loza, who led after each of the first two rounds, earned medalist honors for the second time in as many seasons after finishing three strokes ahead of the next competitor with a 181.

TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS
  • Due to inclement weather on Sunday, the Championship's final round was reduced to a 9-hole round
  • Loza, who shot an even-par 72 in rounds one and two, led the field after each of the first two days
  • The recipient of the 2021 McLeod Trophy, which is presented annually to the individual winners of the MAAC Men's and Women's Golf Championship, finished the weekend with an 1-over 181, finishing three strokes ahead of the closest competitor
  • The Hawks combined for a team score of 786 (+66) for a fifth-place finish
  • Fellow senior Brooke MacKinnon was the second finisher for Hartford, finishing in 25th place (21-over 201)
  • Sophomores Hannah Drew (29th) and Lara Yeung (30th) were the next two scorers for the Hawks, recording a 25-over 205 and 26-over 206, respectively
  • Rounding out the scoring for Hartford was sophomore Teagan Devoe (33-over 213), who took36th
  • Quinnipiac took home the team title, finishing the three-day event with a 30-over 750, securing an 18-stroke victory over UAlbany

Securing an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, Loza will have to wait for the NCAA Selection Show on Wednesday, April 28, to see where she will be competing to open Regionals. The NCAA Regionals, which begins on May 10, runs through May 12.
