OGDEN, Utah — Jared Winiarz of the Hartford men's golf team was named a Big Sky Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the organization announced Friday.
To be eligible for this award, the student-athlete must have exhausted his or her intercollegiate athletic eligibility and/or be a member of the graduating class, earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 (on a 4.0) scale, been a participant in a Big Sky-sponsored sport, completed at least two (2) years of intercollegiate competition at the institution, and been a letter winner.
Winiarz, a native of Norton, Mass., competed in 10 events for the Hawks this past season, posting a career-best 74.59 stroke average over 27 rounds. He paced the Hawks with seven rounds of par or better, including a season-best single round score of 69 at the Ryan Lee Memorial Collegiate. His senior season was highlighted by an eighth-place finish at the Hartford Hawks Invitational at Bulls Bridge.
Winiarz finished his four-year career with a 75.77 stroke average over 66 rounds and 27 events. A marketing major, he graduated with a 3.48 GPA. Winiarz received numerous academic honors during his time as a Hawk, receiving two Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar awards, and was a member of the Big Sky All-Academic Team in all four seasons.
