DANBURY – The University of Hartford women's soccer team is heading to postseason action.
For the first time in the school's Division III era, a Hartford team will participate in a postseason tournament. Riding a 10-game winning streak, Hartford earned the top seed in the four-team tournament. The Hawks will open the tournament 5 p.m. Saturday, playing New Jersey City University. The other semifinal will pit host FDU-Florham against Salisbury 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The ECAC Championship will be contested 3 p.m. Sunday.
"We have had our eyes on this postseason all season long," said University of Hartford Women's Soccer Coach
John Natale. "While taking it one game at a time, earning a berth in the ECAC Tournament was our guiding light. This team has worked extremely hard to stay focus all season and to be selected as the top seed is a tribute to the leadership of this team. We are grateful to the ECAC Committee for affording us this opportunity."
Seniors
Imani Jenkins and
Christina Stone are the catalysts for the Hartford offense, each setting single-season records along the way. Jenkins holds the record for most points with 65 points on 26 goals and 13 assists, and Stone is holding the single-season assists mark with 16.
Three of the top four point scorers in the Commonwealth Coast Conference are Hartford Hawks, led by Jenkins. Freshman
Kathleen Brush is second in the CCC with 33 points on 12 goals and nine assists, while Stone is fourth with six goals and 16 assists.
Defensively, has shutout four of the last five opponents. Sophomore goalkeeper
Sejal Johnson is third in the conference with a .823 goals against average.
