The University of Hartford softball team tallied 16 total runs in sweeping Eastern Connecticut State Sunday in a doubleheader at the Hartford Softball Field.
GAME ONE: HARTFORD 7, EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 2
Caylee English was exceptional in the circle, allowing just an infield hit over five innings with seven strikeouts as Hartford claimed the opener.
East Conn had its best opportunity against English in the third inning as the Warriors opened the frame with a walk and hit batter. A sacrifice bunt and another hit batter loaded the bases. The senior took matters into her own hands in getting out of danger with back-to-back strikeouts, one looking and the other swinging.
The Hawks took the early lead with three consecutive walks and a wild pitch. Another walk loaded the bases again, but Hartford didn’t push another run across the board. Olivia Wolk homered with two outs in the second for another run.
Hartford tacked on individual runs in the fourth and fifth innings on RBI singles by Emily Coffey and Neveah Terrell.
The visitors got on the board with two runs in the sixth, however, the Hawks answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. An infield single by Kelsey Galevich scored Wolk, and then Shailynn Williams doubled home a pair of runs in scoring Samantha Nagel and Galevich.
Wolk scored a career-high four runs while tying her career high with three hits – going 3-for-3 with a double, home run, and RBI.
