Box Score 2 FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The University of Hartford softball bats were silent for the doubleheader as the Hawks tallied eight hits with one run in getting swept by Fairfield Tuesday at the Alumni Softball Field.
GAME ONE: FAIRFIELD 8, HARTFORD 0 (6 inn.)
The Hawks were limited to five hits as Fairfield scored five runs over the first two innings and secured the win with three runs late in the opener.
Kelsey Galevich had the team's lone extra-base hit, a double, while
Mara Sczecienski,
Carly Mayhood,
Anita Farkash, and
Mikayla Gordon all recorded singles.
Hartford's biggest threat came in the second inning as Mayhood and Farkash opened the inning with singles, and
Taylor Fitch drew a one-out walk to load the bases. However, the inning ended with a strikeout and flyout. The Hawks also loaded the bases in the fifth inning, thanks to back-to-back two-out walks, but a flyout ended that opportunity.
Mayhood (2-4) allowed five earned runs on seven hits with a pair of walks in two innings, while
Lauren Card only allowed one earned run – three total – in 3.1 innings on four hits.
GAME TWO: FAIRFIELD 7, HARTFORD 1
Kelsey Galevich's solo home run in the top of the seventh inning accounted for Hartford's lone run of the doubleheader as the Hawks fell 7-1 in the nightcap.
Neveah Terrell's bunt single and single to centerfield by
Shailynn Williams were the only other knocks for Hartford.
Caylee English finished with nine strikeouts to eclipse the 100-strikeout mark for the season. She is in a position to finish the top five all-time in strikeouts over seven innings in a season.
English (7-9) allowed seven runs, six earned, on nine hits over six innings of work. Only one of those nine hits went for extra bases, a bases-loaded triple in the sixth inning.
Hartford (16-16) concludes the regular season with a doubleheader Noon Saturday at Monmouth.
