PREVIEW: Men's Cross Country Set to Compete in CNE Championship

WENHAM, Mass. - The Hartford men's cross country team will travel this Saturday to Gordon College as they are the team to host the Conference of New England 2025 Championships. In 2024, this was the first year the Hawks were eligible to compete in this contest and placed 5th out of 10 teams. The men will be running an 8k this Saturday with a start time of 12:00 PM.

Championship Headlines:
The Hawks are coming off their last event, the Central Connecticut State University Mini Meet, having placed 3rd of 4 teams. However, they look for a strong finish coming into the CNE Championship. The Hawks best performance this year was their first competition of the season as they hosted the 2nd Annual University of Hartford Invitational, the team placed 4th out of 19 teams.

The Hawks are currently led by graduate student Riley Brutvan (Gardiner, N.Y.) as he holds the season's fastest time in the 8k event with a time of 25:24.20 when competing at the Keene State Invitational. In addition to Brutvan's strong 8k performance he also holds the quickest time for the 5k event helping the Hawks earn 4th place at the UHart Invitational earlier this season with a time of 15:50.8. Last year at the 2024 CNE Cross Country Championship Brutvan raced with a time of 26:20.24 claiming 13th place and was named to the third team all-conference for his top 15 performance.

In addition to Brutvan, sophomore Owen Klein (Coventry, R.I.) also runs strong for the Hawks as he finished 22nd in the Connecticut College Invitational crossing the finish line at 25:51.02. In the 2024 Championship Klein crossed the finish line just behind Brutvan with a time of 26:28.74 to bring him home in 17th place.

Another Hawk to keep an eye out for is junior Trae McIntyre (Troy, N.Y.) who has been consistent for his team earning high placements in multiple competitions with specific strength in the 5k event. His best time this season stands at 16:12.84 giving him 11th place at the CCSU Mini Meet this past weekend. McIntyre will be a Hawk to look out for as in 2024 at the same championship he nabbed 22nd place for the team with a time of 27:14.05 and will be looking for placement yet again this year.

Senior Gulian Marconi (Southampton, Mass.) had several impressive performances this 2025 season, most recently taking 13th place at the CCSU Mini Meet taking 13th place just behind McIntyre with a time of 16:15.51. Looking towards this weekend for the 8k his best season time was recorded at 26:38.46 at the Connecticut College Invitational.
