MILTON, Mass - The Hawks women's lacrosse team had an impressive showing this Tuesday afternoon defeating Curry College with a final score of 20-7, clinching their first Conference of New England (CNE) win of the season.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks took the early lead over the Colonels as junior Sara Costa (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) found the back of the net in the opening 50 seconds of play. The Hawks continued their early dominance controlling possession and staying aggressive in the attacking half. Within three minutes sophomore Madison Olmstead (Wolcott, Conn.) capitalized on a free position opportunity putting the team up 2-0 over the Colonels. The pressure did not stop there sophomore Katie Graham (Colchester Conn.) and Olmstead again would score the next two goals within 19 seconds of each other. The Colonels were able to get on the board when they put away a free position goal off the hands of Ava Doyle with 8:46 remaining. Senior Meghan Smith (Orange, Conn.) was the next Hawk to connect two more goals and put the Hawks up at a comfortable 6-1 lead, both goals assisted by Olmstead. Sophomore Laurel McIntosh (West Kingston, R.I.) closed out the first quarter nabbing a goal of her own banking on a free position shot, the Hawks continued their strong run as they headed into the second 7-1.
  • McIntosh carried her momentum into the second half scoring the first two goals for the Hawks both off of swift passes from Olmstead that continued the Hawks scoring streak 9-1 over the Colonels with 8:41 remaining. The Colonels' Natalie Keenan cut the deficit to just 9-2 capitalizing on a man-up opportunity 39 seconds after McIntosh. Curry continued to battle, finding a breakthrough at 4:44 when Ava Doyle scored, 9-3. The Hawks maintained control of this game as McIntosh slammed her fourth goal of this match into the back of the net from a free position shot. Freshman Brenna Slattery (Wilbraham, Mass.) and junior Courtney Ingham (Bedford, N.H.) kept the Hawks rolling, closing out the first half with two more goals within the final minute of play, 12-3.
  • Sophomore Talei Ricketson (Centennial, Colo.) fed junior Kelly Hoxie (Nassau, N.Y.) to score at 11:21 setting the tone for the Hawks as they moved into the third quarter. Minutes later, again Ricketson finds sophomore Lauren Samela (Cheshire, Conn.) to claim a goal of her own pushing the advantage to now 14-3. Slattery puts away her second goal of this match up within the next minute behind Samela. The Hawks are putting together sequences that the Colonels cannot keep up with. The Colonels' Samantha Sprissler fights for points on the board beating a few defenders and finds the back of the net to add the fourth goal of the game for the team. Samela closed out the third quarter with two back to back goals fed again by Ricketson to push their lead to now 17-4.
  • Curry was the team to strike first in this final quarter capitalizing off of a free position attempt; it was Grayson Goolgasian to get the job done, trailing now 17-5. Smith was quick to respond, finishing off of a free position attempt of our own with 11:39 remaining in this match-up. Next to score for the Hawks was junior Caitlin Welch (West Haven, Conn.) who maintained possession of the ball off of a lost free position attempt and was able to nab her first goal of this season and the 19th goal of the game. Curry continued to challenge the Hawks defense in an attempt to chip away at this large lead and snuck a goal by Hartford's keep sophomore Mandi Rivard (Vernon, Conn.), Natalie Keenan was the Colonel to score. Slattery finished off the scoring for the Hawks, capitalizing off of another free position attempt and sealing the win for the Hawks.
