Hawks Split Doubleheader vs. Suffolk University

BOSTON, MASS. - The Hawks traveled to the Commonwealth to take on the Suffolk University Rams for a Conference of New England (CNE) match up in which each team would win one of the two games. 

Game 1:

Rapid Recap:
  • In the third inning, sophomore Katrina Baran (Townsend, Del.) would lay down a sacrifice bunt that would bring in the Hawks first run of the game. Later in the inning, sophomore Alyssa Edwards (Stoughton, Mass.) would rip a RBI single through the left side to extend Hartford's lead to 2-0.
  • Suffolk would come around to bring in one run in the fourth inning, however the Hawks would come right back in the top of the fifth inning with a RBI double from senior Anita Farkash (Seaford, N.Y.) making it 3-1. Suffolk would come back in the bottom of the frame, tying the game at three a piece. 
  • Junior Adelie Beebe (Sacramento, Calif.) would break the tie with a 2 RBI single making it 5-3. 
  • The Rams would bring things back tying the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. And in the bottom of the seventh they would earn the win with a walk off single through the left side for a 6-5 final.
At the Plate:
  • Senior Gia Miccio (Bellmore, N.Y.) would end game one going 3-4 at the dish with three singles as well as coming across to score and notching a stolen base. Baran would go 2-4 with a RBI. Farkash would go 1-3 with an RBI and a double in game one.
  • The Hawks would tally 11 total hits, as well as three stolen bases.
  • The Hawks would strike out seven times in game one. 
In the Circle:
  • Senior Carly Mayhood (Newton, N.J.) would get the start for Hartford, going 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with five strikeouts in 26 batters faced. 
  • Junior Gracie Hopkins (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) would come in for relief, going 1.1 innings, and giving up three runs on six hits, with one strikeout and no walks in 10 batters faced. 
Game 2:

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks would get things going ealry, as Beebe would bring in a run via a sacrifice fly out to right field.
  • In the third inning the Hawks would bring in four runs as Farkash would bring in two run on an RBI double, freshman Priya Bedard (Medway, Mass.) would score one on a sacrifice fly out to left field, and sophmore Ella Zobel (Clarence, N.Y.)  would single to center to put the Hawks up 5-0.
  • In the seventh inning freshman Alina Weaver (Nazareth, Pa.) would hit a long ball that would plate two making it a 7-0 Hawk lead. 
  • Suffolk would bring one run across in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Hawks would score once again as Farkash would hit a solo shot into center field for an 8-1 advantage. The Rams would bring in one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it would not be enought to mount a comeback as the Hawks would come out on top 8-2 in game two. 
At the Plate:
  • Weaver would finish the day going 3-5 at the plate with the home run and two RBIs. Farkash would go 2-4 at the dish, with three RBI and a double. Bedard would end the day going 1-2 with one RBI.
  • The Hawks would end game two with 10 hits. 
  • Hartford would only strikeout three times in seven innings of action
In the Circle:
  • Zobel would get the start in the circle for Hartford going 6.0 innings, giving up one run on two hits, with six strike outs in 26 batters faced. Junior Alex Hassett (Granby, Conn.) would come in for 1.0 inning giving up one run on one hit in five batters faced. 
  • The Hawks would only give up three walks, and end with combined six strikeouts. 
Post Game Press:
Farkash said post game "It was great to see the team come together and be aggressive both offensively and defensively. Knowing I have the support of my teammates makes it easy for us to put together hits and have success like we did today."

Up Next:
The Hawks will host CNE opponent Gordon College on Wednesday April 22nd for a double header, with first pitch of game one slated for 1:30PM.
