Box Score
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Matt Walker doubled and drove in a run, but the Hartford baseball team managed just three hits on the day as they fell to Marist on Wednesday, 10-1. The loss snapped a modest two-game winning streak for Hartford, costing them a chance at a season-best three game streak.
Bobby Gorski started and took the loss for the Hawks, while Brendan Chapin earned the victory for the Red Foxes.
Marist jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two runs in the second and two more in the fourth before
Cory Beahm lined a single back up the middle for the Hawks' first hit in the top of the fifth inning. He would advance no further, though, as
Rodger Wilmot flew out to center to end the inning. In fact, no Hawk would move past first base until the ninth inning.
Marist added a run in the fifth and five more in the seventh to wrap up their scoring. John Prano had three hits and an RBI for Marist, while Jon Schwind drove in three runs for the Red Foxes.
The Hawks got on the board in the ninth inning.
Andy Drexel led off with a single through the right side, and with one out,
Matt Walker smoked a line drive down the left field line. The ball went all the way to the wall, allowing Drexel to come around to score and sending Walker into second base with a double. That was all Hartford could muster, though, as Marist wrapped up the 10-1 victory.
Hartford remains on the road for its next games, a three-game set at Maine starting on Saturday. The Hawks and Black Bears will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 3 p.m., followed by a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
