Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Hartford baseball team dropped the first two games of its four-game set at Stony Brook on Saturday, falling 3-2 in extra innings in Game One and 13-3 in Game Two. Mike Amendola had three hits and an RBI in the first game, as Mike Thatcher pitched a strong complete game but took the loss. Brian Rice started and got the loss in the second game, as Rodger Wilmot had a single and an RBI.

The Hawks got on the board first in Game One, scoring a run in the top of the second. Erik Figueredo reached on a fielder's choice, then moved to second on an error by the Seawolves' shortstop. After Cory Beahm walked to load the bases, Andrew Siano hit a roller to third. Stony Brook tried to turn two to end the inning, but Siano beat the throw to first base and Figueredo crossed home with the game's first run.

Stony Brook would tie the score in the bottom of the inning.

Hartford went back on top in the fourth. Beahm led off with a single that shot through the right side of the infield, moving to second on Siano's groundout. Amendola was up next, and he laced a double to deep left field, scoring Beahm and putting Amendola into scoring position. Although he would move up to third base on Andy Drexel's groundout, he could move no further as Mike Aldrich took a called third strike to end the inning.

After the Seawolves tied the score in the bottom of the seventh, Hartford mounted a threat in the top of the eighth. Three straight Hawks reached base to open the inning, but none could move past first as Stony Brook benefited from two fielders choices and a pickoff. In the bottom of the eighth, Robert Dyer singled in the winning run for the Seawolves in a game scheduled to go just seven innings.

Stony Brook did not wait for last-minute heroics in Game Two, pouncing on the Hawks for runs in four of the first five innings to build up a 13-0 advantage. Brian Rice started and lasted three innings, allowing eight earned runs. Tyler Corsi came in to finish the game, giving up four earned.

Hartford got on the board with three runs in the seventh inning, taking advantage of a Stony Brook miscue to plate all three unearned runs. Drexel's RBI double scored Beahm, who had reached on a one-out single. Wilmot followed with an RBI groundout, sending Amendola plateward after he had reached on an error by Stony Brook shortstop Vincent Caesar. Adam Sobiewski's single up the middle scored Drexel, closing the scoring at 13-3.

The Hawks and Seawolves will be back in action on Sunday as the Hawks try to split their four-game series at Stony Brook. The doubleheader will get underway at noon.
