Baseball Falls in Season Finale, 18-13 at Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. - Despite one of its most prolific offensive performances of the season, the Hartford baseball team closed the 2010 campaign with a defeat at Albany on Saturday afternoon, 18-13. Matt Walker continued his hot hitting to end the season, going 2-for-4 with two walks, four RBIs and four runs scored. Bob Rogers took the loss for the Hawks, while Travis Wilson earned the win in relief for Albany.

Only one Hartford hitter - Andy Drexel - did not collect at least one hit on the afternoon. Drexel nonetheless managed to reach base safely twice, scoring two runs.

The Hawks took an early 5-1 lead through the top of the second inning, but starter Vinny Fiore could not record an out in the bottom of the second as Albany scored six times, grabbing a 7-5 lead. Hartford was persistent, responding with three runs in the fourth to recapture an 8-7 advantage. After the Great Danes scored twice in their half of the fourth and twice more in the fifth, the Hawks put up yet another three-run inning to tie things up at 11.

Hartford took a brief 13-12 lead in the top of the eighth, but in the bottom of the inning, the Great Danes went ahead for good with six runs off three Hawk pitchers.

Rodger Wilmot knocked two hits for Hartford, driving in two runs and scoring one himself. Jason Freethey, Bobby Gorski and Alex Bulger also registered multi-hit days.
