Baseball's Game with Massachusetts Postponed, Now Set for March 31

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford baseball team will have to wait just a little while longer to open their home schedule for the 2011 season. Due to impending winter weather expected in the West Hartford area, the Hawks' game Wednesday afternoon against the Massachusetts Minutemen has been postponed. It will be played next Thursday, March 31, at 3:00 p.m.

With the postponement, Hartford will now play its first game at Fiondella Field this season on Saturday. Hartford will host in-state rival Yale for a doubleheader beginning at noon. The Hawks and Bulldogs will then face off in another doubleheader Sunday in New Haven.

Hartford has 14 home dates at Fiondella Field this season, including five doubleheaders. The Hawks have opened the season with 13 consecutive games on the road, going 1-11-1 in that stretch. This is the second time that Hartford's home opener has been delayed, as the Hawks were slated to play Central Connecticut at Fiondella Field on March 9 before unplayable field conditions forced that game to New Britain. The Hawks and Blue Devils would play to an 11-inning, 3-3 tie.

Tickets for Saturday's doubleheader are still available, and can be purchased by calling 860-768-HAWK or by visiting the Malcolm and Brenda Berman Athletics Box Office at the Reich Family Pavilion.
