BOX SCORE GAME 1
BOX SCORE GAME 2
Stony Brook, N.Y. – The Hartford baseball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday at Stony Brook (4-0, 9-4) with the Seawolves completing a four-game weekend sweep of the Hawks. Hartford was led by catcher Alex Bulger who finished 3-of-4 with three RBI at the plate.
Bulger was one of three Hawks to finish with a multi-hit game as Brian Hunter led the Hawks in the first game going 2-of-3 at the plate. Hunter's two hits accounted for more than half of the team total as the Hawks were held to just three hits in the second shutout of the series. All three hits in the game went for one base with Brian Estevez providing the third.
Bulger's three hits led Hartford in the second game, while Estevez joined in him in scattering more than one hit as the second baseman added a pair of singles to the Hawks effort. The Hawks finished with 11 hits in game two, one more than their opponent, but were held scoreless until the ninth inning. The Hawks drought of scoreless innings stretch 26 total before the four runs in the final inning of the series broke that up.
Hartford had to work from behind all of Saturday as the Seawolves scored early in both contests. The Hawks four runs came by way of a wild pitch and three RBIs, one from senior Chris Suchy and the other two from Bulger. Bulger's pair of RBIs came on a single up the middle that allowed Suchy and Estevez to score, the final two runs Hartford would muster.
On the hill, Austin Barnes and Alex Gouin suffered the losses. Barnes replaced starter Sean Newcomb early in the first game and pitched 5.2 innings allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits and four walks. He also struck out one batter. Newcomb faced three batters and recorded a pair of outs before being relieved.
Gouin was one of four players used in the second game. He started the contest and pitched five innings allowing five earned runs on eight hits, while striking out four batters, a series high for all Hawks pitchers. Ryan Carter was tagged with the final four runs allowed, pitching just one-third of an inning and allowing two hits and walking two batters.
The Hawks will play a single mid-week game on Wednesday when they travel to Rhode Island for a 3:00 p.m. start at Bill Beck Field.
