WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Hartford baseball coach Justin Blood announced the addition of Michael Nemeth to the Hawks coaching staff. Nemeth is a former standout at the University of Connecticut before being drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2011.
“Mike is smart, motivated and talented,” said Blood. “The qualities that made him a great player will make him a great coach. We're extremely lucky to have him with us.” Nemeth will serve as the assistant hitting coach, while primarily working with the infielders.
Nemeth spent two seasons in the Milwaukee organization, playing both years for the Helena Brewers in Helena, Mont. As an infielder with Helena, Nemeth played in 72 and had a .220 batting average with 52 hits in 236 at bats.
As a four year starter at first base for the Huskies, Nemeth was a 2010 ABCA/NCAA Rawlings Division I All-American and holds five career records at Connecticut. He finished his career with a .356 batting average over 241 career games, compiling 331 hits in 931 at bats with 98 of those hits going for extra bases. He also drove in 211 runs, which is one of Nemeth's career records. Also among those records is games played, at bats, hits, doubles (70) and total bases (481).
Nemeth was a two-time Big East All-Conference honoree (2010, 2011) and received the ABCA/Rawlings Division I Gold Glove in 2011. He also earned All-New England First Team distinction in 2010.
