Hawks Top St. Francis (NY) to Highlight Sunday Doubleheader

SMITHFIELD, R.I.—The University of Hartford men's tennis team wrapped up its fall dual-meet schedule Sunday with a doubleheader against a pair of Northeast Conference opponents. The Hawks started the day with a 5-2 victory over St. Francis (NY) before dropping a 5-1 match to host Bryant.

The Hawks got off to a fast start in doubles play against St. Francis (NY), sweeping three matches from the Terriers. The combination of Nicholas Sharwarko and Morgan White gritted out an 8-5 victory in the top spot while Jordan Badenko and Juan Molina took an 8-3 win at No. 2. The tandem of Alex Holdstein and Harrison Max had the easiest time, cruising to an 8-0 shutout win to take the doubles point.

In singles play, the Hawks notched wins at the Nos. 3-6 positions to pull out the 5-2 match result. Among those four singles wins were a pair of clean sheets by Holdstein and Max. Holdstein posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 while Max put up the same count at No. 6.

Not far off that shutout pace was White at the No. 4 slot. The freshman put dropped only two games in his match, coming away with a 6-2, 6-0 result. Molina picked up the fourth Hartford singles win of the match, 6-4, 6-4 to earn his first singles victory as a collegian.

Against the host Bryant Bulldogs, White came away with the singles win for the Hawks, again playing at No. 4. White battled for a 7-6(2) victory in the first set before shutting the door with a 6-2 result in the second set.

The Hartford men wrap up their fall slate when they compete at the Connecticut Championships October 25-27 in New Haven, Conn.
