ALBANY, N.Y. – Hartford ace Zuzana Kudernatschova kept the University at Albany softball team hitless through six innings, but a walk-off double off the bat of Kylie Apostolina pushed the Great Danes past the Hawks, 2-1, in the final game of a three-game set on Saturday afternoon. With the series sweep, UAlbany (15-7) improves to 3-0 in America East play while Hartford (8-20) dips to 2-5 in the conference.

Hartford got off to a fast start as senior Kate Wacyk slammed her first home run of the season, sending the two-out bomb over the left field wall to put her team up, 1-0.

UAlbany would answer in its first at-bats as it grabbed that run back and knotted up the contest at one run apiece. Vicky McFarland drew a walk to start the frame, and then grabbed the next three bases using her speed on the paths by stealing second and scoring on a passed ball.

Following that walk conceded to UAlbany, Kudernatschova would retire the next nine Great Danes she faced in order, bringing the Hawks into the fourth inning. Just two more UAlbany batters would reach base in the next three stanzas as Taylor Franich led off the bottom of the fourth with a walk and Apostolina started the bottom half of the fifth by reaching base on an infield error.

The game went scoreless for the next five innings and a half, with Kudernatschova owning a no-hitter until the top of the seventh. That's when Marlin Solano disrupted the hitless outing by rocketing a base hit to center field with zero outs recorded in the frame. The Great Danes would go on to plate the game-winning run as Apostolina doubled with one out, scoring pinch-runner Annie Johnson from second for the walk-off win.

Kudernatschova (5-9) recorded three strikeouts while Brittany MacFawn went the distance for UAlbany, recording nine strikeouts while allowing just one earned run on Wacky's long ball.

The Hawks will play their first home games of the season on Wednesday afternoon when they host the Iona Gaels for a doubleheader. First pitch from the University of Hartford softball stadium will be tossed at 2:30 p.m.
