WEST HARTFORD, Conn. –
Junior lefthander Sean Newcomb pitched seven no-hit innings, extending his season-long streak of not allowing an earned run to 39.2 innings as the University of Hartford baseball team split a doubleheader with the Stony Brook Seawolves on Saturday. Hartford and Stony Brook will close out the series with a single game on Monday, with the first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Facing the Seawolves ace Frankie Vanderka, who threw a no-hitter last week at Albany, the Hawks finished with three hits including a triple from Adam Touhey that led to the lone run of the contest. After Touhey's shot into the corner in right field, leadoff hitter Trey Stover sacrificed himself to drive in the run on a fly ball to deep right.

The other two hits in the first game came from first baseman Brady Sheetz and right fielder Ryan Lukach. Lukach's hit, a single to left center, came with two outs in the second inning as the Hawks worked the bases loaded following that hit. All three runners would be stranded as Vanderka forced a groundout to get out of trouble. Sheetz's single game in the sixth inning, but he was erased on a double play ball.

Newcomb had to work out of trouble once in his seven innings of work after giving up three-straight walks in the sixth inning, all with two outs. He would eventually force the Seawolves three-hole hitter, centerfielder Kevin Krause, into a line drive to Stover at shortstop. Stony Brook would break up the Hawks combined no-hitter with one out in the ninth inning as Krause singled through the left side. Hawks closer Alex Gouin didn't let that faze him as he forced fly balls to left field and right field, respectively, to end the game and earn his fifth save of the season.

The Hawks would again finish with three hits in the second game, led by catcher Billy Walker who finished 2-of-3 at the plate, the last of which was a double to the fence in right field with two outs in the seventh as the Hawks threatened to tie the game. Touhey added the only other Hartford hit, a single up the middle in the fifth, but he was caught stealing to end the inning.

Stony Brook's lone run of the afternoon came in the top of the fourth inning with the Seawolves combining for two singles and two sacrifices to muster the game-winning tally. The first hit of the innings was a single through the right side from Kevin Courtney, who was pushed into scoring position thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Cole Peragine. Courtney was able to advance 90 feet on the second hit, this time a single through the left side off the bat of Casey Baker. That left runners on the corners for Johnny Caputo who sacrificed himself on a suicide attempt that allowed Courtney to cross the plate.

Senior Brian Hunter pitched a complete game for Hartford in the second game, his third of the season, suffering his fifth loss in as many decisions. Hunter would be tagged with six total hits, while giving up two walks and striking out three batters. Ryley MacEachern also pitched a complete game, earning the victory for the Seawolves.
