BOX SCORE vs. HOFSTRA | vs. BOSTON UNIVERSITY | vs. WAGNERWEST HARTFORD, Conn.—The University of Hartford men's tennis team ran the table against Wagner, winning all 9 matches against the Seahawks Saturday afternoon on its way to a 7-0 victory. The win over Wagner came after a competitive, 6-1 loss to visiting Boston University earlier on Saturday and a 5-2 loss at home against Hofstra last Thursday.
The Hawks started quickly against the Seahawks Sunday, taking the doubles point after winning each of the three doubles matches. In the top spot, senior
Jordan Badenko and sophomore
Nicholas Sharwarko posted an 8-6 win. The win was the third-straight for the tandem in the No. 1 post after turning in wins against Hofstra Thursday and Boston University Saturday morning.
In the No. 2 match, senior
Alex Holdstein and sophomore
Luis Montes blanked their opponents, 8-0. Freshmen
Juan Molina and
Morgan White duplicated that score with an 8-0 win of their own at No. 3.
"Wagner was the match we have been waiting for all year," said Head Coach
Torr Terranova. "It is always nice to end a long stretch and a long weekend with a win under your belt."
The Hawks got that win, rolling through all six singles matches against Wagner. Badenko ground out a 7-5 win in the opening set before blanking his opponent, 6-0 in the second set to take the victory at No. 1 singles. Sharwarko and Holdstein also triumphed in close contests as Sharwarko took a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 2 and Holdstein took a 6-3, 6-4 result at No. 3.
For Holdstein, it was his second singles win of the day after taking down Boston University's Mario Sandoval, 6-3, 6-4, to record the Hawks' lone point of the morning contest against the Terriers.
In the Nos. 4-6 singles slots, the Hawks coasted to three lopsided victories. Molina notched a 6-0, 6-1 win at the fourth post while White pulled out a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5. Montes shut out his opponent, not conceding a single game in a 6-0, 6-0 win in the sixth slot.
On Thursday, the Hawk men picked up two points in a loss to Hofstra. Hartford won the doubles point with Badenko and Sharwarko winning in the top spot while Montes teamed with freshman
Harrison Max for a win at No. 3. Max also earned a point in singles play, taking a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at No. 6 against the Pride.
