AMERICA EAST RELEASE
HARTFORD WINTER/SPRING HONOR ROLL
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The America East Conference announced its 2014-15 winter/spring Honor Roll, which included 126 student-athletes from the University of Hartford. Of the 126 Hawks honored, 67 were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
The America East Honor Roll follows the America East Academic Cup, which was awarded to University of Hartford student-athletes in 2014-15 for achieving the highest cumulative grade point average for the 2014-15 academic year. With their fourth-straight America East Academic Cup, the Hawks shared the crown with the University of New Hampshire after posting an overall GPA of 3.23.
A total of nine Hartford squads were eligible for the Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll. Women's track and field led all nine teams with a total of 24 honor roll distinctions, 17 of which qualified for the Commissioner's Honor Roll. On the men's side, the track and field team also posted the most honor roll members with 23, 12 of which were on the Commissioner's Honor Roll. The baseball team posted a total of 21 student-athletes on the honor roll, which tied Maine for the most from one institution in that sport.
This academic year, 11 Hartford student-athletes who compete in the winter/spring seasons found their way onto the America East All-Academic teams for their respective sports. The baseball team led the way with three members on the All-Academic Team:
David MacKinnon,
Sam McKay, and
Kyle Gauthier. Following the baseball honorees were two members of the softball team,
Margaret Betz and
Peyton Fisher, and
Brian Monks and
Kevin Sanna from the Hawks' men's lacrosse team. Johnathan Choiniere and Samantha Crisafulli represented the men's and women's track and field teams, respectively, while senior
Corban Wroe from the men's basketball team rounded out the All-Academic Team honors.
The America East is proud to have one of the most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country. In addition to the honor roll, an All-Academic team comprising of student-athletes that excel both academically and athletically is chosen in each of the conference's 20 sports by a committee consisting of faculty athletic representatives, academic advisors and sports information directors. Additionally, a scholar-athlete, someone who distinguishes his/herself as the top student-athlete in his/her sport, is awarded. From that group, one male and one female is selected the America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Finally, the Academic Cup is awarded to the school with the highest cumulative GPA among its student-athletes for that academic year.
