THE LEAD:
The Hartford baseball team got stellar pitching and timely hitting to post a doubleheader sweep of UAlbany on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks allowed just one run on 14 hits and just two walks in 16 innings of action, as
Kyle Gauthier and
Brian Murphy each won their starts.

At the dish,
Chris DelDebbio and
David MacKinnon each had four hits on the day, with DelDebbio registering four RBI and
Aaron Wilson scoring four runs for the Hawks.
GAME 1: HARTFORD 11, UALBANY 0
Gauthier pitched eight shutout innings, and the Hartford bats exploded for 16 hits and 11 runs as the Hawks took game one.
Erik Ostberg went 3-for-6, while Wilson, MacKinnon, DelDebbio,
Chris Sullivan and
Joe Roberti each had two hits. DelDebbio led the Hawks with three RBI, while Wilson scored three times.

Gauthier allowed just six hits without surrendering a walk, striking out four to improve to 4-2 on the season. Brendan Ryan was given the loss after giving up eight hits and five runs in five innings of work for the Great Danes.
HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 1:
• The Hawks continued their trend of scoring early, plating a run in the first when Ostberg singled home Wilson to make it a 1-0 lead in favor of the visitors.
• It remained that way until the third, when the Hawks pushed their lead to 3-0. DelDebbio doubled to plate Wilson for the first run, and Ostberg followed with a double to left center to plate DelDebbio to make it 3-0.
• In the fifth, the Hawks used the longball, with
Ben Bengtson drilling his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot that scored Ostberg, to make it 5-0.
• Meanwhile, Gauthier was cruising, allowing just three hits and not allowing a runner past first base in the first five frames.
• Hartford added a single run in the eighth on a MacKinnon RBI grounder to plate Roberti for a 6-0 lead.
• In the ninth, the Hawks erupted for five runs, the first on an RBI single by Roberti and the second on an RBI groundout by Wilson.
• After MacKinnon made it 9-0 on a sac fly, DelDebbio doubled to right field to plate two more and result in the final score.
•
John LaRossa came on to get the final three outs of the game, ending things on a double play.
GAME 2: HARTFORD 6, UALBANY 1
Murphy scattered five hits and two walks in his six innings of work, striking out seven to improve to 6-2 on the season in pitching the Hawks to a 6-1 win.
David Drouin pitched the final inning for the Hawks in the victory.

DelDebbio and MacKinnon each went 2-for-4 in the win, with MacKinnon scoring twice. The Hawks managed just one other hit – a T.J. Ward RBI single – but it was enough to come away with the triumph and the doubleheader sweep.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 2:
• The Hawks carded another first-inning run in game two, with Ostberg delivering a sac fly to plate MacKinnon for a 1-0 lead.
• The score remained that way until the fourth, when the Hawks collected two runs, one on a Bengtson RBI groundout and the other on a Ward RBI single, to make it 3-0.
• DelDebbio pushed the lead to four with an RBI single in the fifth to bring in
Billy Walker for a 4-0 advantage.
• Murphy picked up where Gauthier left off, holding the Great Danes off the scoreboard until the bottom of the sixth, when Matt Codispoti doubled in a run to cut it to 4-1.
• Hartford picked up a pair of insurance runs in the seventh, one on a double by MacKinnon to plate Wilson and another when MacKinnon came home on a wild pitch to make it 6-1.
