Baseball to Host UConn at Fiondella Field on Wednesday Afternoon

The Hartford baseball team has made a minor adjustment to its Wednesday schedule, as the UConn Huskies will in turn be coming to play at Fiondella Field at 3 p.m.

The contest was originally scheduled for the same time at J.O. Christian Field in Storrs, Conn., but the field conditions were not going to be playable by game time. Instead, the Hawks will host the Huskies in an in-state rivalry game that spans back to 1985. The Hawks are 14-37 against the Huskies all-time, but have taken the last two contests at home over UConn, winning 6-1 last season and 3-2 in 2014. David MacKinnon led the way with two hits and two RBIs, while Jacob Mellin secured the victory in last season's affair.

By coming from behind to win game one of last weekend's series at UMass Lowell, the Hawks not only extended their winning streak to a program-best eight games, but Hartford also managed to get off to its best season in program history (17-5) as well. The Hawks currently sit at 18-6 on the year, ranking 48th nationally in RPI by the NCAA.

The Huskies come in at 13-12 overall, winning four of their last five games. UConn dropped its most recent contest against Tulane by a score of 14-5 on Saturday. The power of the Huskies offense is led by Bobby Melley, who leads the team in both home runs (4) and RBIs (27) on the year. Willy Yahn leads UConn with 36 hits.

Ashton Bardzell has been a sparkplug for the Hawks as of late, and the freshman just received America East Rookie of the Week honors from the conference after an impressive four game stretch. Bardzell ripped five hits including two home runs and two doubles, drove in six runs, scored six times and also drew two walks. On the season, the Ramsey, N.J., product owns a .269 average, with 14 hits and 13 RBIs.
